Tips for recruiters - Conduct Case Interviews

Case interviews are the best tools to test a candidate’s analytical skills, problem solving ability and communication strengths. You can use them in the final stages of screening. In a case interview, present a scenario that closely matches the actual work the candidate may perform, within a specific framework. After you put forward the case, encourage the candidate to think aloud as she attempts to crack the case. This can help you evaluate the candidate’s ability to grasp the problem accurately, clarify it logically, structure the analysis rationally and summarize & communicate findings clearly.

As the candidate analyzes situations, test if she is able to strike a balance between ingenuity and realism. Good candidates will not hesitate to ask probing questions to understand all aspects of a problem before attempting to solve it. Determine if the candidate is decisive and can take independent decisions when necessary. Well-structured case interviews can also help determine a candidate’s flexibility and time management skills.

Create personalized letters

As a recruiter, you might have standard templates that you use to communicate to your clients and candidates. You probably have a template for notifying interview schedules, requesting references, etc.

Contact managers such as ACT!, GoldMine, Outlook, integrate with word processors like MS Word and WordPad. You can create your own templates and personalize them by inserting name and address. Clicking one button and selecting the desired template is all you have to do. Your contact manager does the rest.
