My copy of the Mark Joyner Farewell package arrived during my vacation. It was with great interest that I opened it when I got home. Since then I have studied the different applications to see what needs to be done in order to get them up and running on my web server.

I have also studied all postings on the discussion board but find it to be a lot of talk about JV but very little action.

I invite you to join my project that I call eBook Live. I chose the name eBook Live because there are modifications published daily. In each eBook you will see my setup and modifications of the CGI and PHP scripts for the application. It will give you a good start on what you need to do in order to set it up on your own web server.

I am learning. I like the training so far. Your explanations are easy to follow. I've installed scripts before following detailed instructions. But I was never able to troubleshoot the setup when I had problems.

Your comments are helping me to understand the workings of the script. I do not have my first pages up yet. Not because of your training but because of my lack of time. But this weekend I plan on catching up to you in Start Blaze.

I have 4 projects in various stages of completion. My biggest problem is always language barriers. So this will help me.

Too many of the MJFP CD owners are dreaming about making money with the CD, yet 99% of us have no idea how to modify or install any of the programs, it's about time someone steps forward and and did something about this. I am happy to say I have invited a very positive member, Lennart Johannson, from Sweden. Lennart is also an experienced programmer and has offered to help many people in the MJFP UC. It does not matter if you know nothing about programming, CGI etc. I will walk you through, step by step, on what I do with each application. The goal is to get it up and running with as few modifications as possible giving you an introduction on how to modify the package for your own applications. You can do this as long as you can edit a file using WordPad or some other text editor and upload files to your web server. You might need support from your ISP regarding the setup of MySQL and user rights.

There are 3 important modifications that I will do:

  1. I will show you how to make the applications easier to install at different web servers.

  2. Some parts of the current package is very difficult to modify but I will show you how easy it can be done, using your normal tools.

  3. There is a lot that can be eliminated from the package (without loosing any functionality) with this technique that I will show you.

These 3 modifications will save you a lot of time in the future when you create your own applications based on the Farewell package.

There will be a documentation for each module, what it does, what files it uses and how it links to other modules.

Who is Lennart Johansson?

I was borne in 1951 in Umeå in the north of Sweden and started in the computer business as a programmer in 1970. I have worked as a developer with companies like Nixdorf (now Siemens) and Wang before the PC entered the arena.

For the past 15 years I have been running my own company Zoft 80 AB marketing CRM software like TeleMagic, ACT!, ADAPTcrm and eDigiPlace

I have also written add-on programs in FoxPro and Basic, set up several web shops using CGI scripts.
