Database Synchronization
Sample Setup 2:
One Central Database and
Four Remote Copies
Using Data Synchronization Server entails a simple setup to define
your central and remote sites. When setting up the central site,
you define what information should be controlled. You have total
control, down to the field level, of which contact data should and
should not be synchronized.
When setting up the remote sites, each site has a unique name
and identification. Data Synchronization Server is also set up to
define the user(s) working at each site and the information to be
received by each.
Once setup is completed, TeleMagic Enterprise creates a file that
contains transaction records. As you make changes in TeleMagic,
transactions are created and entered into this file. When the user
initiates "process mode" in Data Synchronization Server, these transaction
records are condensed into a packet and placed in an "out-box".
Users can then retrieve this packet and place it in an "in-box"
at the remote site. When the packet in the in-box is processed,
Data Synchronization Server updates the remote site with the changes.
At the same time, each remote site is creating transaction records
which will end up as packets in their out-boxes for eventual synchronization
with the central location.
In this way, the database synchronization process comes full circle
and all users are working with the most current, up-to-date information.
In wide area networks, remote sites can set the path to their out-boxes
directly into the central location's in-box, and the path to their
in-boxes to the central location's out-box, saving the step of manually
moving the packet from one directory to another.
